"The pain we suffered as children never subsides. The history of the creche should never be lost. It has to be told over and over."

— Salo Muller (1936-present)

"This story should not be forgotten. Two people risked their lives to save me as a toddler. Fortunately, they succeeded. I survived and they did, too. One was Jewish, and worked for the creche, the other was non-Jewish."

— Esther Barendse-Boas (1942-present)

"At age three, I was one of 600 children who, during the second world war, were rescued from certain death by the incredibly courageous women and men who were connected with the Creche in Amsterdam. These men and women all had one common aspiration, which was that they could not stand back and do nothing while children were being murdered. Courage and defiance against tyranny should be recognized worldwide."

— Leo Vogel (1940- present)

"During the last round of raids, my parents were taken and they tried to hide me at my cousin's, but I was reported missing and taken to the creche. I was in the crèche for weeks in 1943. I was four at the time, and I was sick. Unlike many children that were smuggled out, I stayed there because my grandfather was one of the Presidents of the Jewish Council. I was too well-known to 'disappear'. I've been told that I was sent onto Westerbork as a threat to my grandfather, in spite of the fact that I had a sign next to my bed saying "Nicht Transportfähig" meaning "Not fit for Transport." I want the world to know about the brave women, and a few men at the creche, so they can be remembered and honored."

— Frank Diamand, filmmaker/poet/ director of "When Memory comes, a film about Saul Friedländer"

Logline

When Dutch Jews were rounded up for deportation to concentration camps, in the Netherlands in 1942, a plan was hatched to sneak hundreds of Jewish children out of a Jewish daycare to safety with “foster families” in the countryside. From survivors’ stories to rescue workers’ heroic tales, this well-organized resistance movement is the hidden history of World War II heroes and heroines during the Holocaust.
